Our curriculum is different than in most business schools. Since nothing in the actual business world operates in a vacuum, neither do we. Rather than teach accounting or marketing or computer information systems as though nothing else exists, we attempt to integrate our curriculum throughout the four-year experience.
Courses taken early in our students' careers contain content and experiences that become integral to later courses. Furthermore, students must spend the entire fall semester their junior year in an integrated course that's team taught by professors from different business disciplines. This synthesis prepares our students to understand the interrelationships among business systems and gives them an incredible advantage entering the business job market after graduation. Just come to one of our recruiting days if you don't believe it. Corporations are competing with one another to hire JMU College of Business graduates.
We're housed in the 100,000-square-foot Zane Showker Hall. It's next to Newman Lake and is a beautiful place to learn. Completed in 1991, the building has state-of-the-art academic facilities, including a computer lab that links the college with the rest of the campus and to the outside world. We are wired--from our offices to our classrooms. The building, which houses all departments and centers, features a teaching wing with classrooms designed to enhance faculty-student and student-student interaction to the fullest extent possible. The other wing houses faculty offices and on an average day the halls are full of students and professors talking exuberantly and turning sideways to let you pass by.
Here in Showker Hall, we aspire to be one of the best undergraduate programs in the United States. We're focused like laser beams on excellence and innovation in learning. Come check us out.
