These two photos show an aluminized polymer membrane being used in studied to develop techniques to measure wrinkle displacements and thermal profiles. A membrane like this might be applied by NASA as a solar shield or solar sail.

This photo shows a turbo-molecular vacuum pumping station used to evacuate gas filters and dewars that house infrared detectors.

The above photo shows an infrared imager and gas filter wheel, some of the components used in an instrument designed to measure carbon monoxide in the troposphere. Also shown on the right of the picture is a blackbody source in rear which is used to simulate infrared emission by the moon.
