Health Services Administration Major, Matt Curtin, Awarded Second Place Hill-Rom Essay Competition
James Madison University senior and Health Services Administration major, Matt Curtin, was awarded second place in the Undergraduate Division of the 2006 Hill-Rom Management Essay Competition. Sponsored by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Matt received $2000 and an all-expense paid trip to Chicago to present his essay at the ACHE Annual Congress. Inspired by an article discussing the success of the diversity management program for IBM, Matt entitled his essay, “Promoting Diversity in Health Services Organizations: Integrating Social and Business Perspectives,” which emphasizes the importance of promoting diversity in the workplace, not only for business reasons, but also as a social responsibility. Matt says, “I felt great about having the opportunity to present my paper in front of distinguished persons at ACHE. My topic became a passion of sorts, therefore I had very little anxiety about speaking in front of such people.”
