Community Agency and School Counseling Programs Reaccredited

The CACREP site visit team has completed its exhaustive study of JMU's application for re-accreditation and has presented its exit report. The program has met ALL 245 standards. Therefore, the team is recommending that both School Counseling and Community Counseling be unconditionally approved for re-accreditation for the entire seven-year period.

The team's report was so positive that Dr. Craig Cashwell, the team chair, spent the majority of the session listing the many strengths and positive qualities of the program's students, staff, supervisors, alumni, faculty, and curriculum. Dr. Cashwell said, "The collegiality and sense of community here at JMU are better than any program I have ever seen."

He went on to praise the program for our many outreach efforts and concluded that the program is the "antithesis of an ivory tower." Our list of strengths included our focus on interpersonal process, excellent results on the National Counselors Examination, tremendous involvement of students, impressive scholarly work of faculty, an excellent handbook, the quality of our current students and alumni, an innovative comprehensive examination, and intensive training experiences.
