Madison Scholar Award Guidelines - Fall 2011

James Madison University prides itself on the accomplishments and commitment of its faculty. Each year, in recognition of superlative achievement in scholarship, the College of Integrated Science and Technology identifies one faculty member within the college as the recipient of the Madison Scholar Award.

Minimal Criteria

  • Currently has full-time (non-retired or non-emeritus) status
  • Has completed at least five years of service at JMU at the rank of assistant professor or above
  • Has not received a Madison Scholar Award in the past 10 years
  • Has at least regional recognition in his or her field
  • Has consistently received satisfactory ratings in teaching and service

Additional Criteria

  • Candidate has recently demonstrated outstanding scholarship/research
  • This work has been disseminated through peer reviewed publication and/or other means

Data Sources

  • Current Vita
  • Nomination letter from academic unit (academic unit head and/or members) highlighting the candidate’s breadth and dept of scholarly activities.  The nomination letter should also confirm the candidate’s teaching and service performance.
  • One letter of nomination from a source outside of the University
  • A maximum two-page description written by the candidate describing scholarly work and any reviews or references in other scholar’s research as is appropriate.

Nominations

Each academic unit (academic unit head and/or members) may nominate one or more faculty members for the award.  Submit information online using the form below along with copies of the documents required for the award nomination.  The documents will be forwarded to the chair of the Faculty Development Committee. The due date for all documents is Monday, October 17, 2011 by 5:00 PM.

Submit all the documents as a package including the letter from the academic unit and any other letters. Before going to the form make sure you have all the documents needed for your complete package.  All documents must be submitted at the same time. Nominations from the academic unit PAC are strongly encouraged.

Award

The recipient of the College’s Madison Scholar Award will receive a $1,500 honorarium and will be recognized at a University and College meeting in the spring.
