CHEMISTRY 131 LABORATORY

Fall 2005

This course is designed to acquaint the student with elementary procedures and techniques encountered in the chemical laboratory.   The experiments have been chosen to illustrate these techniques and to supplement lecture material.

Required Text: "Experiments in General Chemistry," Greco, Rickard and Weiss, Eighth Ed., 2002.

The laboratory text is available in the bookstore. Safety glasses may be obtained from the bookstore.

Laboratory Vouchers should also be paid in the bookstore during the first two weeks of classes. The Laboratory voucher covers the cost of chemicals and other consumable items used in the course. Failure to obtain a voucher will lead to administrative course withdrawal.

Departmental Requirements:

•  In order to maintain a safe environment for the student and instructor, no one will be permitted to remain in the laboratory without some form of eye protection.  Further, the student is expected to be familiar with departmental safety requirements and comply with the safety guidelines given in the laboratory manual.

•  Two unexcused absences will result in an "F" in the course.  Each instructor will determine what constitutes an excused absence.  Excuses must be obtained from the laboratory instructor.  In the event of a conflict caused by a University sponsored extra-curricular activity, it is the student's responsibility to make satisfactory arrangements with the instructor prior to the conflict.
