The spring 2008 edition of the departmental alumni newsletter, "the Bond" has been published. Click here to download a copy.

The Research Corporation has awarded the Department a Departmental Development grant, based on a proposal spearheaded by Dr. Gilje, with help from Drs. Amenta, MacDonald, Minbiole, and Mohler. The funds from this grant will be used primarily to attract talented new faculty and students, by providing support for research and scholarships.

The department has selected nine juniors and seniors to receive departmental awards. details

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has received funding from the National Science Foundation for three more years for its summer REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program. We are grateful to Drs. Downey and MacDonald for writing the successful proposal.

Professor John Gilje has been selected as the 2007-2008 Madison Scholar. This Award is given by the  faculty in the College of Science and Mathematics in recognition of the cumulative accomplishments of an individual, with emphasis given to scholarly work done at JMU.  Recipients are nominated by their colleagues or department and a committee selects the recipient.
