Take Your Professor to Lunch or Coffee (TPLC) provides an opportunity for faculty who teach classes with enrollments of 50 or more to get to know their students better. This initiative allows students to establish an educational relationship with a faculty member; evidence shows that students who have a professional connection with a professor outside of the classroom are more successful in their overall collegiate experience. TPLC is jointly sponsored by the CFI and General Education.

How TPLC works:

  • Eligible faculty can apply for a complimentary lunch or coffee at one of several on-campus locations (Madison Grill, East Campus Dining Hall, Java City Memorial Hall, Rose Library Starbucks).  
  • Applications are accepted the 2nd through the 4th week of each semester or until we receive 30 complete applications.
  • Within one week, the accepted applicants will receive an email from the CFI confirming a date, time, and location for lunch.
  • Then, a student representative of the TPLC program will arrange to come to the registrant's class to randomly select six students to engage with the professor.
  • The CFI will make the lunch or coffee reservation and send reminders to participants. 
  • Lunches and coffees take place in the middle of the semester.
  • The Center for Faculty Innovation and General Education pick up the tab for all TPLC scheduled events.

Faculty will be limited to participating with students from one course only.
