WHAT PREVIOUS PARTICIPANTS HAD TO SAY:
"It was a great experience. I found the group interactions very motivating. Sharing my writing with others helped me clarify the focus of my project, while reading my peers' work gave me a better appreciation of our common experiences."
"I was encouraged-even pushed-to develop my draft. I was also encouraged to think about the role of the scholarly writer in the institution and in the individual academic unit. And, more to the point, I finished a short piece and sent it out."
The Center for Faculty Innovation and University Writing Center are pleased to announce three new Scholarly Writers’ Programs to support faculty writers during the 2007-8 academic year. The first two sessions were held in the fall with enrollment determined by application and selection.
“Jumpstart Your Writing” was a four-week intensive session designed for less experienced scholarly writers, or for those who need inspiration and help to be more productive early in the writing process. All you need for this program are good ideas and determination to write. Potential activities include:
• Focusing your ideas and research questions
• Finding potential audiences and publication venues
• Working with editors: the submission and revision process
• Keeping up with the latest research tools & databases
• Overcoming writer's block
• [and any others you might think of]
This series is co-facilitated with Jody Fagan, JMU Library Digital Librarian

The second four-week session, “Reshaping & Polishing Your Scholarly Manuscript,” facilitated peer review and revision for scholarly writers who already have substantial drafts but want to prepare them for submission to be published.
In May 2008, we will offer a one-week intensive “Scholarly Writing Boot Camp” for writers to kick-start their summer writing agendas. Check back for details next spring!
