Events for May 2011
Enhancing the Life of the Mind
These sessions, talks, and experiences will celebrate faculty scholarship, explore ways to improve the life of the mind, and allow members of the JMU community to make meaningful connections regarding faculty experiences in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Back by Popular Demand
Workshops are a great opportunity for you to learn new skills, meet new colleagues, and explore new topics. These workshops were the most popular offerings from the past couple of years. We have added an extra 30 minutes to each experience to ensure you have enough time to get something started.
Faculty Interest Groups
Faculty Interest Groups, or FIGs, are an opportunity for faculty to gather and discuss a timely topic of interest in higher education. This year we are offering two FIGs – one will explore General Education at JMU and the other will reflect on the changing nature of faculty work in academia.
Institutes
Institutes provide a guided tour of topics such as grant-writing, service-learning, and active learning. The best and brightest facilitators ensure a quality experience. Many of the institutes require an application, so act now to reserve your space.
JMU Student Development
Student development sessions and workshops explore ways for you and your organization to become more involved in the judicial system and the civic learning program. This year we have also added a session exploring the concept of restorative justice. If you are looking for new and meaningful service duties, check out these hands-on sessions.
Lockdowns
Lockdowns offer quiet space, reflection, and in some cases a little bit of background on topics relevant to your work. You will be amazed what you can get done in the right environment. Invest in yourself, your scholarship and your teaching. Register for a lockdown today!
Technology Sandbox
New features of Blackboard are just one of the offerings in this category. Even if you are new to using technologies in your teaching, these sessions will get you started, keep you energized, and offer you lots of new technological innovations.
What's New at JMU
The What’s New sessions offer the opportunity sit back, relax, and learn something new about JMU, the JMU library holdings, geospatial resources at JMU, and so much more. You can even explore some of the sustainability topics on campus. Register now and get ready to learn something new about your workplace environment.
