Announcement:

The Center for Faculty Innovation (CFI) at James Madison University enthusiastically invites applications for the full-time, 12-month position of Faculty Consultant. This new individual will join a dynamic interdisciplinary team working collaboratively in a friendly energetic environment to plan and implement center programs. The CFI staff includes an Executive Director, an Assistant Director, four part-time Faculty Associates, one full-time administrative assistant and several part-time student assistants. The CFI professionals are 12 month instructional faculty who teach one course per semester in an academic discipline and engage in scholarly activities. The Faculty Associates are full-time academic faculty who contribute as part-time CFI professionals. While continuing to build and diversify its leadership team, the CFI is poised to move into customized space on the top floor of the new campus library.

Information about the CFI:

The mission of the CFI is derived from the belief that faculty innovation and excellence are an ongoing interplay of teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership. As a relatively new unit, the CFI is engaged in an ongoing process of innovation. The CFI is faculty-driven and dedicated to providing support for faculty and campus leaders in their multidimensional roles. The CFI, positioned directly under the Provost's academic leadership, provides a range of carefully designed services to meet the needs of educators at various stages of their careers and, whenever possible, the CFI collaboratively co-sponsors programs with other campus units or services with the ultimate goal of fostering a campus culture that values excellence in teaching and learning.

The CFI has initiatives in the areas of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, innovative space design, faculty learning communities, academic leadership, diversity in curriculum/courses, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The CFI works closely with the Center for Instructional Technology in areas related to effective integration of technology in instruction. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Center for Faculty Innovation. Anticipated starting date is July 1, 2008. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
