Designing Surveys That Work

What are the keys to designing surveys that elicit strong response rates, represent the population of choice, and gather robust data? How lengthy should a survey be and what are the advantages of online versus pen-and-paper techniques? This workshop will prime participants on ways to develop reliable and valid surveys, highlighting keys to effectiveness. Participants will practice developing good survey questions. Faculty and graduate students who register are encouraged bring in-progress surveys or survey ideas with them to the workshop.

Keston Fulcher, Graduate Psychology
Dr. Keston Fulcher is an Associate Assessment Specialist and Assistant Professor in Graduate Psychology at James Madison University. Previously he served as the lead assessment officer at two different institutions. In these roles he has consulted with scores of academic programs and support units on assessment in the context of SACS accreditation and internal improvement. He teaches classes in statistics and measurement and his research interests include validity in higher education assessment. Keston is a graduate of the Ph.D. program in Assessment and Measurement from James Madison University.
