Visiting Professor Dr. Sirpa Kokko works as a University Lecturer at the University of Helsinki (UH), Department of Education, Craft Teacher Education program. UH is the oldest and largest institution of academic education in Finland, ranking among the top 100 universities internationally. Among other duties, Dr. Kokko supervises BA, MA and PhD theses. She has long experience of Finnish craft education at different levels of education; comprehensive school, class teacher education at the University of Eastern Finland, and craft teacher education at UH. She has been involved in teacher and research cooperation with several European universities through Erasmus+ program and the university exchange programs, and worked in Africa.    

After finishing her PhD thesis (a monograph in Finnish) in 2007 at the University of Joensuu, Finland, she has conducted research on current developments of craft culture and craft education and published 11 research articles in several international refereed journals, such as Craft Research, Gender and Education, International Journal of Education through Art, Design and Technology Education: An International Journal, International Journal of Technology and Design Education. In addition, she has published 15 book chapters, a co-written book, and 7 research articles in conference proceedings. She has been the editor of a book and a journal. She is a member of the International Editorial Advisory Board of Studia Vernacula, University of Tartu/Viljandi Culture Academy, Estonia, and has been a reviewer of several academic articles in journals, such as Gender and Education, Techne Series, publications at the University of Helsinki, Craft Research, Studia Vernacula, and also Bloomsbury Publishing.
