Stephanie Stockwell earned her BS in Bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD in Biological Sciences from Dartmouth College. She first came to JMU in 2008 as a teaching and research post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Integrated Science and Technology and took a tenure track position in 2010. She employs a variety of team learning methods in her General Education, ISAT, and Honors courses pertaining to biotechnology and scientific research. In addition to her work at JMU, Stephanie has served as a visiting professor for two seasons of Bard College's intensive Citizen Science Program. In the laboratory Stephanie pursues her interest in host-bacterial interactions through two main avenues of research—Bordetella avium/turkey pathogenicity and Bradyrhizobium japonicum/soybean symbiosis.
