How does work shape our understanding of self, family, community and significant life events? This is the primary question that drives Janell Bauer’s research in Organizational Communication and Gender Studies. Janell began her academic career as an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies James Madison University after receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado, at Boulder. Janell has become passionate about how dialog can be engaged to deepen our understanding of, and reflections, on social identity. After completing an IGD seminar, Janell became trained as a facilitator, and went on to teach and undergraduate course on Intergroup Dialog and Gender Difference. Her current research and teaching interests include a focus on critical theory, embodiment, feminist pedagogy, digital feminism and consciousness raising in the online space.
