Institutes
Institutes provide faculty extended, immersive experiences in conceptualizing a comprehensive vision and developing reflective, evidence-based documentation of professional growth, development, and performance. Faculty synthesize dominant themes and activities from across the spectrum of faculty roles and responsibilities and connect their individual professional identities to JMU’s mission and vision. Institutes range from half-day options to multi-day events, allowing for more opportunities for engagement and disciplined inquiry. They are facilitated by faculty mentors and consultants with expertise in career development and offer participants opportunities to deepen and enrich career planning and development for all stages of the professoriate.
Career Development Institutes are designed for faculty to make progress toward the following outcomes:
- Experience pedagogy appropriate to the session; and
- Have the opportunity to actively apply the session content.
