How to Apply as a Graduate Student

The Centennial Scholars Program application for the 2018-19 academic year will open mid-January. The application will be available through March 1 for incoming graduate students for fall admission to JMU.

The application process has two phases; the eligibility phase and the interview phase. Applicants must be eligible for CSP in order to continue to the interview phase. The application process detailed below applies to incoming graduate students who plan to enter JMU in the Fall semester.

  • Apply to the JMU Graduate School.
    • If you apply to your graduate program and have not received a response, you are still able to apply to CSP. We highly encourage you to apply as soon as the application window opens.
  • Review CSP Eligibility and Graduate Program Requirements.
  • Complete the online CSP Application.
    • The GA Mentor Application is available from mid-January to early-March through a link provided on this page.
    • The Program GA Application is availabe via JobLink when openings are available.
    • You must have your JMU ID number to complete the CSP online application. Your JMU ID number is located in the JMU Applicant Center, under "Personal Information."
  • Approximately 1 week after the CSP applications are processed, applicants will be contacted via email regarding their application status. If all eligibility requirements are met, applicants will proceed to Phase Two of the CSP application process.
  • Schedule a mandatory on-campus interview.
    • Applications will receive a link via email to sign up for an interview time.
  • Attend the mandatory CSP interview.
    • Graduate Assistant Mentor interviews are held in the Student Success Center on the JMU campus, typically on the third and fourth Fridays in March.
  • Approximately 1 week after all graduate CSP interviews have been conducted, applicants will be contacted regarding their final decision.
