FINANCES AND THE REAL WORLD

This presentation aims to address some of these key topics. Mr. Brad Barnett from JMU's Office of Financial Aid will be providing us with key tools on how to financially prepare for the real world.

- Are you new to MadisonTRAK or just wanting to learn how to use this valuable web-based job-search system? Learn how to:

- Submit resumes to employers for internships and full-time positions

- Take advantage of special career prep workshops employers will be presenting on topics including:

This workshop will teach you how to use MadisonTRAK and open a new world of possibilities for internships and full-time positions with top employers recruiting at JMU. MadisonTRAK will benefit students of ALL majors in the job search process! Also learn about the many services, programs and resources offered through Recruiting Services and Career and Academic Planning to help you find success in the career search. This is a MANDATORY workshop for all those that want to use MadisonTRAK.

Sign up for a half-hour session with an employer on MadisonTRAK no later than two days before the scheduled date (the company name is: Employer in Residence Program).

Wondering what you can do with a major in...? Looking for leads on jobs or internships? Considering Grad School and not sure where to start? Want to see some great JMU resume samples for ideas? All this, and more, can be found in the Career Resource Center located in 303 Wilson Hall. The Resource Center is open several Tuesday nights during the semester until 7pm, and staff are available to assist you. Come check it out!

Federal Job Search- How to Navigate the Federal Application Process:
- Seeking federal employment? Learn how to find one of the 200,000 federal positions that will be available. This workshop will teach students how to prepare federal resumes and do KSA's
Undeclared Expo:
- Undeclared Expo is an event for undeclared students who are in the process of choosing a major. Advisors from the office of Career and Academic Planning will: assess where you are in the major decision making process, provide appropriate information, and connect you with decision making programs or interventions as needed. This event is offered on Feb. 19 from 3-6:30pm and Feb. 20 from 1-4:30pm. Stop by any time during these hours, but be sure to allow 30 minutes of your time. Undeclared Expo will take place on the 3rd floor of Wilson Hall. Please RSVP on our Facebook page or email your Career and Academic Planning advisor if you don't have a Facebook account. Education Programming:
- This series of Tuesday Night programs has been specially designed for future teachers by Teresa Gleisner, the CAP liaison to Education programs. Over the course of the Spring semester, workshops will be offered on how to write a resume that summarizes your teaching experience, how to ace your first professional education interview, and resources for the education job search.
How to Prepare for Teacher Recruitment Day:
- Are you interested in meeting up to 80 education employers in one location? This session will show you how to effectively prepare for Teacher Recruitment Day. Topics will include how to research school systems, items to bring and tips to make you stand out above the crowd.
Project Networking- Make it Work:
- When you begin internship or job searching, "networking" becomes one of those buzzwords everyone seems to throw around. If you feel like you still don't really know what this term means or how to do it, stop by for Project Networking! Staff members in Career and Academic Planning will clear up the mystery and provide you with practical tools, ranging from how to master the art of small talk to where you should put your name tag when attending a career fair.
How to Make Time for Study Abroad:
- Find out how to include Study Abroad in your college career. Learn about all the different types of Study Abroad opportunities that JMU offers. Studying abroad does not just mean spending a full semester or 3 months in a different country, find out all the different ways you can study abroad and still graduate on time.
Incorporating International Experience on Your Resume:
- Whether you have studied abroad, volunteered for a service project, and or participated in an alternative spring break through JMU or through other means, learn how to include that information on your resume in the most professional and effective way!
Making a Smooth Transition to the World of Work:
- Catch some important insider’s tips from recent JMU alumni who know what it takes to survive in the "real world" after graduation! A panel of alumni will be sharing their experience with: budget considerations, finding housing, adjusting to a new work environment, hitting the social scene with colleagues, and more.
