Schedule

The Career Fair is a 2-day event, but each organization is invited to register for one day. Both days are open to all majors/industries, and the fair is held each fall and spring.

  • 9-11am: Arrive at JMU's Ballroom, check in, and set up booth
  • 11am-3pm: Career Fair

Interviews

Registration

Deadlines for Fall 2018

  • Registration Opens: November 1, 2018
  • Registration Closes: February 5, 2019 or when all spaces fill
  • Cancellation Deadline for 100% refund: January 2, 2019
  • Cancellation Deadline for 50% refund: January 22, 2019
  • No refund will be issued for cancellations received after January 22, 2019.
  • If the event is canceled by James Madison University due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.
  • Please submit payment within 30 days of completing the registration process

Fees

  • Please note that we are only able to accept credit card as method of payment. Any payments sent via check will unfortunately be returned.
  • All registration fees include table (8 foot by 2 foot), event publicity, and 2 representatives. Each organization is limited to 1 table only.
  • $400: Corporate/For-Profit Organizations
  • $200: Government Agencies & Non-Profit Organizations (This will be verified through the email address provided during registration.)
  • $100: 501(c)(3) Charitable Non-Profit Organizations (To verify status, your tax ID will be needed as you provide your contact information.)
  • $15: Additional Attendees
  • $15: requested proximity to electricity

Instructions 

  • Log in to our online recruiting platform Handshake.
  • Navigate to the ‘Fairs’ tab on the left and search ‘JMU Campus-Wide Career Fair.’
  • Consult the Handshake Help Center’s How to Register for a Career Fair instructions for further information.
  • Our office will review your registration request within 3 business days.

Mailing Displays

Please send your packages no earlier than one week prior to the fair.


Need to ship display items back after the fair? See below for instructions and reminders:

  • It is the responsibility of each employer to arrange for his/her own pick up of displays.
  • Please call in your shipment to your carrier at least  two hours prior to pick-up.
  • Pick-ups should be arranged for 5:00 p.m. same day at the latest. Please tell express delivery services to pick up displays at the main entrance to the Festival Conference Center.
  • After arranging shipment please bring your materials to the registration desk for storage.
  • Please note that JMU is not responsible for any displays remaining after 5:00 p.m.

Travel & Parking

The event will be held in the Festival Conference & Student Center at 1301 Carrier Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

JMU Campus Map

Unloading and parking:

  • Please allow at least 30 minutes for parking and taking the shuttle bus to the Festival.
  • Pull into the Festival cul-de-sac and unload all materials for the fair onto the sidewalk. Staff will ask you which organization you represent and bring your materials inside to your assigned table.
  • Exit the cul-de-sac as soon as possible out of consideration for other recruiters. You can check in when you return from parking your car.
  • Drive around the cul-de-sac and turn right onto Carrier Drive, proceeding to the stop light.
  • At the stop light turn right onto University Boulevard.
  • Follow University Boulevard past the Convocation Center. As you go down the hill and see the Days Inn on your right, turn onto Forest Hill Road.
  • Proceed to the stop light and go straight across Port Republic Road to R-10 and R-11 parking lots.
  • Park your car anywhere in the R-10 and R-11 lots. Parking anywhere else will result in a ticket.
  • JMU shuttles will be leaving every few minutes from the R-10 and R-11 parking lots. The shuttles will take you back to the Festival for the Fair.
  • When you arrive at the Festival proceed to the registration table (straight ahead through the entrance) to check in.
  • If you need a physical address of the parking lot for Google Maps or GPS, use 605 Port Republic Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22807.

At the end of the day, shuttles will be available to either:

  • take you and your materials back to the parking lot -OR-
  • take you back to your car where you may drive back to the Festival (following the Fair signage) to pick up your materials

Please print and bring this information with you.

Hotels & Lodging

  • If a hotel stay will be part of your visit, view our list of local accommodations.
  • You can stay at Hotel Madison at a discounted rate! 
    • Click "Reserve Now," select your dates of stay, then click "Reserve Now" again.
    • Click the "Have a Promo or Corp Code" box, and add the discount code "JMU."
    • Select your room type and enter your payment details.

Inclement Weather Policy

Please refer to this policy if the university is impacted by inclement weather on your scheduled day of attendance at the JMU Career & Internship Fair:

  • Fall & Spring Fairs:
    • If the university opens by 10am, the Fair will run as scheduled that day.
    • In the event that the university closes when the Fair has already begun but is less than 2 hours into the event, the rest of the event on that day will be cancelled and all employer fees for that day will be refunded. If the university closes when the Fair has already occurred for 2 hours, the rest of the event on that day will be cancelled and there will be a 50% refund offered for that day.
  • Spring Fair Only:
    • If the university opens at 11am or later, the event on that date will be postponed to our inclement weather Fair date, Thursday, February 22, 2018.
    • If the university is closed on one or both Fair dates, the event on the day(s) impacted will be postponed to our inclement weather Fair date, Thursday February 22, 2018

*We encourage you to monitor the JMU cancellation/delay information prior to and on the day of your scheduled visit by going to http://www.jmu.edu  or calling 540-433-5300.

*We will also be sure to send you an email directly if the university does implement a delay and/or closing once we are made aware of the university’s plan. In the event that the fair is postponed you will receive additional communication regarding the logistics for attending on our inclement weather date.  

If you do not show up on the date of your scheduled visit and the Fair runs as scheduled (either on the original dates or inclement weather date), refunds will not be offered.
