9th Annual MadRush Conference

Call for Papers

The 9th Annual MadRush Undergraduate Research Conference seeks undergraduate research or writing (both academic and creative) and websites in any Humanities or Social Science discipline.

To Apply: Interested students should submit a 100-150 word abstract of their project to madrush@jmu.edu no later than 5:00pm Monday, February 12, 2018. Abstracts should be Word files and should include in the heading the title of presentation, author name, academic major, and institution. We welcome submission of panel sessions on related paper topics or creative writing work. Faculty wishing to nominate students or student groups may email names to white2se@jmu.edu.

Presentation Format: Students selected for the conference will be notified by email in early March. Presentations should be 15-20 minutes in length (approx. 8-9 pages double-spaced); there will be time for audience questions at the end of each conference session. Presentations may include PowerPoint slides for visual support. Presenters are responsible for expenses incurred in attending the conference.

MadRush Best Paper Prizes
Students wishing to compete should send a copy of their completed papers no later than Monday, February 26, 2018 to be considered for the prize. First place: $100; Second place: $75; Third place: $50. Winners will be announced at the end of the conference.

MadRush Undergraduate Research Journal
Student papers submitted for the Best Paper Prizes will also be reviewed for publication in our undergraduate research paper. A group of faculty referees will select approximately eight papers for publication.
