New Faculty Orientation
The Center for Faculty Innovation hosts an orientation day for new faculty every year on the Monday before classes start. It is a great opportunity to meet other new faculty from across campus and to get some valuable information about life at JMU. As well as opportunities to socialize, there are short workshops on teaching, scholarship and service on offer.

Parking Services
Need a parking permit? Go to the Parking Services Office, located under the parking deck on Champions Drive (near the Port Republic Rd entrance). The cost of the permit can be deducted from your pay check throughout the year. To find out where you're allowed to park, take a look at the Campus Parking Map 
Getting a JMU ID Card (JAC Card)
Go to Card Services, room 304 Warren Hall (there is a counter in the lobby as you enter the main doors from the uphill side of the building). Take a photo ID, such as a drivers license with you. It is a good idea to call ahead to check that they can see you in the system before you go down there: 568-6446.
You can use your JAC card to get a discount at the bookstore, and for access to the JMU Recreation Center (UREC). You can also load money onto your JAC card (FLEX) and use it to make purchases on campus, at dining venues, from vending machines, at the post office and the book store.

For information and help related to faculty benefits, particularly family leave, medical leave, etc, talk to Becky Sanford, phone 540-568 2358. She can tell you everything you need to know.
Where to eat
There are many options for eating on campus. Dining services has a helpful map of locations so that you can see what's close to you. Descriptions of the various food outlets are also provided on the Dining Services website.
Finding stuff online
The JMU website isn't always completely easy to navigate. Most things can be found fairly easily on the JMU Site Index.
Starting Research
See the department's funding opportunities page. There is a section dedicated to opportunities for early career researchers. The Jeffress Foundation is a particularly helpful source of funds for getting started.
Teaching Development
The Center for Faculty Innovation has workshops throughout the year that help faculty develop new teaching skills, set aside time to design courses, learn how to actively engage students, manage time and squeeze scholarship into their work lives. These workshops also provide an opportunity to network with colleagues in your own department and others. During May, the CFI holds the May Symposium, an intensive week of workshops and activities, designed to get your summer off to a great and productive start.
