How to Find Us

The Biology Department is located in Burruss Hall (pictured at right) in the Bluestone Area of West Campus. By car, the closest street is Grace Street. If you are on foot, you will see Burruss at the end of the paved walkway at the top of the quad.

Parking

Parking is strictly policed at JMU! You can ask the person you are visiting to organize a guest permit for you, or you can get a temporary parking permit from Parking Services. Their office is under the parking deck on Champions drive, near the Port Republic Road entrance to campus.

Microscopy FacilityMicroscopy facility

The microscopy facility in the Biology Department is a resource for students and faculty across JMU and in the surrounding community. The Facility is equipped with multiple light and fluorescence microscopes and a confocal laser scanning microscope. South River Cleanup

South River Cleanup 2010

Each year, a group of faculty and students take canoes out onto South River and retrieve all manner of trash and debris. See photos from the 2011 trip.

 Herbarium

HerbariumThe James Madison University Herbarium is housed in the Biology Department and is open, by appointment, to anyone who wishes to use it. JMU Biology students participate in the collection and preservation of plant specimens for the herbarium. Also see the Edith J Carrier Arboretum.
