Music Recital Hall -- $20.9 million

(Additional private funds are also being raised for the project.)

JMU's School of Music has one of the top music programs in the country but lacks a major recital facility.  The school enrolls almost 400 majors and presents more than 200 musical events each year.    JMU's Music Building was opened in 1989 and its original design included a recital hall, but the feature was eliminated before construction due to budget constraints.  The School of Music has undergone a period of astounding enrollment growth accompanied by national recognition of the program's quality over the past decade.  The lack of a true recital facility adversely impacts the JMU School of Music in numerous ways.  It detracts from overall program quality and retards the program's further development.  In addition, loss of accreditation would severely damage a program with an excellent national reputation.  Fewer students would enroll and program graduates would face greatly reduced professional opportunities.
