2002 General Obligation Bond Projects

Library at CISAT -- $19.8 million

The new library will meet two critical needs at JMU:  space for specialized science and technology resources and general study seating for students.  The library will be located near the College of Integrated Science and Technology on the JMU campus east of Interstate 81 and augment Carrier Library on the original campus. JMU cannot continue to provide high quality science and technology programs without adequate room for specialized books, journals, databases and other media.  Program quality will suffer, as will the quality of student preparation in the fields in high demand by Virginia employers.  Without the proposed library, students will continue to be unable to find adequate space for individual or group study.  Study space for groups has become increasingly important in technology fields where team projects are routinely assigned and there is a heavy load of project work expected outside of the classroom or laboratory.
