In 1911, JMU's Alumni began a tradition of giving back and paying forward — a century of commitment that has bolstered the mission, the growth and the excellence of James Madison University. Through their unflagging and ever-growing support, alumni have raised spirits, raised funds and raised the bar on what individuals can do when they join forces. Every member embodies the phrase, Once a Duke, Always a Duke. Unmatched by any other group or individual associated with the university, Madison Alumni have invested in the future of JMU in a magnanimous way.
Today, the roll call of JMU Alumni is more than 100,000 strong, and their individual and collective contributions to the university continue to be transformative. From scholarships for students earned from the sale of “Dukes” vanity license plates to a $500,000 contribution to jumpstart the new Forbes Center for the Performing Arts, JMU Alumni have faithfully shaped the university’s future. And while they’ve been changing the future, they’ve empowered JMU students, faculty, staff and friends to invest their educations and careers in changing the world.
“Our alumni not only change the world, they teach others to change the world.”
— Jon Offley, past president, JMU Alumni board
