Disposal of Contaminated Materials

Materials contaminated with blood or OPIM must be disposed of with other Regulated Medical Waste in the red-bag lined boxes that are provided in specific buildings and those laboratories using biological materials. These boxes can also be obtained by contacting your building coordinator or housekeeping staff.

Filled sharps containers also must be disposed of in the medical waste boxes.

In the event of LARGE spills of hazardous materials please contact JMU Campus Police, 540-568-6911.

Those who are off campus at an internship or student teaching experience should become familiar with the policy
of the agency or school.
