The JMU Bookstore, which is owned and operated by Follett, is located in front of Godwin Hall. The Bookstore offers textbooks, as well as many JMU imprinted items, general office supplies, reference books, and computer hardware and software. Harrisonburg Public Transit Service provides transportation within the city of Harrisonburg and on the university campus for university employees. Mr. Chips is an on-campus convenience store that sells a variety of sundries and food. For more information, you may call extension 83922.
The university offers two credit unions which you and your family members may join. Both Commonwealth One Federal Credit Union and the Virginia Credit Union, Inc. are full-service financial institutions offering a variety of competitive savings and loan products. Identification Cards (JACards)
The James Madison University Access Card (JACard) is your official JMU identification card. With this card, you will have access to university recreational facilities, computer labs, libraries, and cultural events. You can also use your JACard as a debit card to make payments at various locations on campus. To obtain a card, visit the Campus Card Center on the 3rd floor of Warren Hall (extension 86446).
There are designated parking lots on campus for faculty and staff. As a university employee, you are responsible for obtaining and displaying a parking tag on your rear-view mirror. Parking fees are based on your annual salary. Hang-tags, rules and regulations for university parking are available through the Parking Office. Parking availability and distance from work location may vary based on time of day. For information on parking call extension 83300.
Postal Services is located in Warren Hall and provides most postal services except registered and insured mail. Money orders are not available. Cash and personal checks are accepted. For more information and hours of operation, you may call extension 86257.
The university has excellent recreational facilities, which are available for use by university employees and family members. Facilities include indoor pools, exercise rooms, racquet ball courts and outdoor tennis courts. Contact University Recreation for hours of operation and information (extension 88732).
The university recognizes the contributions of its A&P Faculty members with an annual recognition program. Employees who have completed five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, thirty, etc. years of service with the university are honored.
Tuition Waiver (Policy 1402)
The university offers a waiver of tuition (undergraduate and graduate) to its A&P Faculty members for academic credit courses offered at JMU each semester. Books, application fees, special course or departmental fees, and readmission fees are not covered. Applicants may have tuition waived for a maximum of six credit hours per semester. Employees must meet the university admissions requirements for a degree-seeking course at the time of application.
