AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Mark Rooker's area of expertise is Metalsmithing. His work primarily includes: functional art fabricated primarily in silver; mixed media wearables created through fabrication, die-forming, anodizing, carving, electroforming, and enameling and other techniques; and the creation of such works such as sculptural objects, and mixed-media artist's books.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Professor Rooker has been head of the JMU Metals program since 2000. He worked professionally as a graphic designer prior to pursuing metals, and has created 3-D designs in metal for various commissions. He offers courses in Metals at all levels at JMU, and is working to develop courses bridging assorted colleges and departments around the topic of Metals, and integrating CAD technology into metals studio art production.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

Mr. Rooker is a member of The Society of North American Goldsmiths and the American Craft Council.
