Ms. Gerard participated in a certificate program in 2004 offered by the JMU Human Resources office for supervisors of student employees. During the fall 2004 semester Ms. Gerard was successfully completed an on-line certificate program for Administrative Assistants offered by JMU’s College of Graduate and Outreach Programs.

Ms. Gerard is responsible for managing all of the School’s operating, grant, and JMU Foundation budgets and scholarship accounts/payments. She orders all consumable materials/supplies for studio classes. Each semester and summer, Ms. Gerard oversees the creation of the academic schedule and enters the information into PeopleSoft. In addition, she handles all administrative aspects of faculty and staff searches for the School. Hiring paperwork, travel reimbursements, and honorarium payments also fall under her purview. Ms. Gerard maintains the mailing list for the Summer Art Program and oversees all financial aspects of the program. As Assistant to the Director, she works on several special projects throughout the year as assigned by the Director.

After graduating from JMU with a BA in Art History, Ms. Gerard worked at Virginia Commonwealth University as the Assistant Slide Curator in the School of the Arts and Slide Curator at the University of Richmond. She later worked at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in the Department of Photographic Resources.

Ms. Gerard is a member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Arts Council of the Valley, and Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance. She is also a member of the Harrisonburg branch of the America Association of University Women. In AAUW, she has held several Board positions including Newsletter Editor, branch Co-President, Co-Vice President for Programs, and Secretary.

Ms. Gerard is a two-time recipient of the Staff Recognition Award (fall 1999 and fall 2005). The award is given to a staff member in recognition of their outstanding performance.

In her free time, Ms. Gerard volunteers at WMRA-FM (an NPR affiliate station). In the past, she has served on the Board of Directors at The Playhouse, Harrisonburg’s community supported theater, and has worked on numerous productions as assistant director, producer, and props mistress. Ms. Gerard has also served on the Independent and Foreign Film Programming Committee at Court Square Theater in downtown Harrisonburg. The committee was responsible for selecting the movies shown during each season. Additionally, she works at the polls on Election Day and is a Notary Public.

Ms. Gerard has served on the Staff Advisory Committee (2004-2007 and 2012-present). She has served in leadership roles on the committee as Co-Chair and on the SAC’s Recognition Award sub-committee. Ms. Gerard is currently serving on JMU’s Employee Advisory Committee (2012-present). Prior to its implementation on campus, Ms. Gerard was a member of the beta test group for the Student Administration System. In the fall of 2005, she served on a test panel for a new feature of the state-wide purchasing system. During the spring and summer of 2006, Ms. Gerard was selected to serve on an evaluation team which reviewed the operations of the Procurement Office at JMU as part of their program review and self-study process. In the 2008-09 academic year, Ms. Gerard served on a working group formed by the Registrar’s Office to review how the scheduling system is used and to help develop training for new and continuing users. Ms. Gerard served on the search committee for the School’s director in 2010-2011.
