Supplementing JMU’s general accreditation, all undergraduate and graduate degrees offered by the School of Art and Design are professionally accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) http://nasad.arts-accredit.org. In addition, the B.F.A. emphasis in Interior Architecture is professionally accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
NASAD is the only accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education covering the whole field of art and design, and provides a basis for public recognition of an institution’s quality. JMU has been accredited by NASAD since 1981.
CIDA provides the foundation for excellence in the interior design profession by setting standards for education and accrediting academic programs that meet those standards. CIDA is recognized as a reliable authority on interior design education by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and is a member of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA). JMU has been accredited by CIDA since 2002.
