The School of Art, Design and Art History offers the Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art and the Master of Arts in Art Education, Art History or Studio Art. The Master of Arts degree in art history is NOT ACCEPTING applications at this time.

Spring Semester: October 15

GRADUATE APPLICATION PROCEDURES

All graduate applications to the School of Art, Design and Art History are made through the JMU Graduate School’s website. To begin your application please visit the JMU Graduate College website, select “For Prospective Students” and then follow the instructions after selecting the “Apply Now” button.

The on-line application process requires official transcripts from all previously attended institutions, an artist statement, a brief statement of purpose, a portfolio of between 10-15 works of art, and three letters of reference. You will be provided a link within the Graduate School application to submit documents electronically, including your portfolio and letters of references. If you are interested in applying for a graduate assistantship, please complete the online assistantship application form.

The Encore Series is an annual program sponsored by the College of Visual & Performing Arts that seeks to enrich the cultural and intellectual life of the greater university community.
