Field School at James Madison's Montpelier
In 2010, JMU will return for its 24th field season at James Madison's Montpelier. In cooperation with Montpelier Archaeology, JMU students will excavate in the Stable Quarter Complex, an area just south of the formal mansion grounds believed to be the location of Montpelier’s stables, as well as slave quarters and work areas associated with the early 19th century plantation. Students will be trained in excavation techniques, laboratory methods, and artifact analysis.
Students may choose to participate for 4 weeks (May 17 to June 10), earning four credits, or for five weeks (May 17 to June 17), earning five credits.
All interested students must complete an application and submit it to Dr. Geier in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology before April 16th.
