Arboretum Volunteer Form

Please fill out the following form, indicating which area you are most interested in. We hope that you know the arboretum staff, and the community that loves the EJC Arboretum, appreciates you!

There will be Volunteer Orientations twice monthly in the Frances Plecker Education Center. One Orientation is on the second Tuesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. Another Orientation is available the last Wednesday of every month at 10:30 in the morning. Orientation attendance is necessary before volunteering may begin. Don't forget to mark your calendar!

Volunteering Interests

Hands-On Volunteers

(Needed Weekdays only, 8 AM - 4 PM)

Green house plant propagation
Labeling plants/Plant ID
Indoor/outdoor Container gardens management
Maintain bird feeders, nesting boxes and birdfeed stock
Seasonal Kiosk display design
General garden maintenance
(including weeding, watering, planting & pruning)
Trail building

Art Gallery Coordinator for monthly shows
Meet and greet Receptionist ~ assists with office work
Volunteer program and membership coordination
Social Media updates/blogging
Arboretum photographer

Tour Guides and Educational Programs

Guide for Childrens Tours and Programs
Guide for Master Garden and Garden Club, and other adult groups

Events

Assist with plants sales
Assist with lecture and workshop events
Assist with fundraisers
I agree by submitting this web form, that I understand that participation in this activity is entirely voluntary. I understand that activities in natural areas may involve certain physical hazards, including but not limited to the lack of immediate medical services due to remote location. I consent by signing this form to hold harmless JMU and any of its agents, officers and agents and the EJC Arboretum in consideration of being allowed to participate as a volunteer. I understand that JMU cannot undertake financial responsibility for me or my personal property in the event I am injured or my personal property is damaged or lost while volunteering. I confirm by submitting this web form, that I do not have on my record felony distribution of drugs or violent offense and am not currently facing felony charges for either distribution or violent offense. I hereby verify that I have no known medical condition which would impair my ability to participate as a landscape volunteer. I further authorize and grant permission to treat to first responder(s) to save life, limb, or physical well-being, should medical treatment be necessary and authorization be required, should I be incapacitated during the activity.
