White-breasted Nuthatch — Sitta carolinensis

Species carolinensis
Nuthatches are known for climbing down tree limbs and trunks headfirst. This species has a black cap and beady black eyes on a white face. The back is a slate gray color and the underside is white. This bird is mostly found in woodlands, but is a frequent visitor to bird feeders. Its song is a rapid series of low nasal notes on one pitch. It is found year round throughout the eastern United States.
