This bird has an olive back with white underparts that are heavily streaked with black. The crown is orange bordered by two dark brown stripes. It has a white eye ring on a brown face. It is often seen walking on the ground when searching for food. It frequently bobs its tail. Its song is an increasingly loud "teacher, teacher, TEACHer, TEACHER". It nests in deciduous forests throughout the middle and eastern United States.
