Field Sparrow — Spizella pusilla

Order Passeriformes
Family Emberizidae
Genus Spizella
Species pusilla
Note the pink bill of this rusty-capped sparrow. It has rather rusty upper parts and a clear breast with less noticeable facial striping than other rusty-capped sparrows. A narrow white eye-ring gives it a big-eyed expression. The juvenile has a finely streaked breast, but the eye-ring is still evident. This sparrow is found in bushy pastures, brush or scrub areas. It nests throughout the eastern United States and winters in most of the southern states.
