This species breeds throughout the eastern United States. It is a fairly large bird - about 11 ½ inches long. It is bright rufous above and heavily streaked below. It has two white wing bars, a curved bill and a yellow eye. The Brown Thrasher is often seen skulking in the brush or thickets. It is an early migrant, arriving in Virginia in mid April.
