January 2013New Monthly Photo Contest
Starting in January, the arboretum is seeking photographers of all ages to participate in our monthly, seasonal pictures photo contest. The contest is not limited to the beautiful grounds and flowers; we encourage you to submit any images you capture of our feathered friends. For rules and submission information, please visit our contest page.
Good Luck and Happy Birding!
Spotted a bird?
Did you spot a bird or two while out for a wintry walk through the arboretum? Let us know and Report a Sighting!. Didn't quite catch your an avian fellow? Stop by the pond and I'm sure you'll get to meet a few friendly (and always hungry for a snack) residents.
And don't forget!
The Great Backyard Bird Count begins Friday, February 15, through Monday, February 18. It's really easy and fun to participate, and your sightings help!
You can find more information at the GBBC website: http://www.birdcount.org.
Welcome!
Welcome to the Birds of the Arboretum website, an online bird catalogue of the avian species that can be found in the EJC Arboretum. This website is a collaborative effort with JMU, EMU, and the Rockingham County Bird Club and will encompass the 113 identified species of birds found in the arboretum.
This website and the data collection is still in progress and updates will be posted on a regular basis; so please excuse anything that you find that is empty or incomplete.
