Billed as a community-sponsored botanical
project, the Arboretum hosts hundreds of educational and recreational field
trips and tours each year for public schools, senior citizens groups,
elderhostels, civic groups and community organizations. Visitors of all ages
learn about nature, botany, horticulture, plant species native to the
Appalachians, and ecology. Members of the community, gardeners, homeowners,
natural history and nature buffs participate in the Arboretum tours, workshops,
seminars, demonstrations, cultural activities, day trips and natural history
travel tours.
