Chapter Planning Meeting
Chapter Coordinator Stephanie Hamson made the trip to Roanoke, despite the summer storms, to meet with the Roanoke leadership team, including President Jeff Smith, President-Elect Andrew Holben, Web/Communications Chair Stephanie Pritt, Outreach/Volunteer Management Chair Susan Larkin, and Events Chair Beckie Spaid. Martin’s Downtown was the ideal location for some serious planning and JMU spirit!
Keep an eye out for the new chapter Web site! Pages are being updated and will go live soon!
Following in MetroDC's footsteps, the Roanoke Chapter will be starting their own "You've Been Spotted" campaign, so if you find a purple notecard on your winshield, it's not a parking ticket, just a friendly hello from the fine Dukes of Roanoke!!
Upcoming events:
9/18 - Happy Hour at Blue 5 (owned and partnered by three JMU alumni!)
Oct. - Viewing party for a JMU football game (location, time and game TBA)
10/18 - Service project and potluck dinner at Jubilee Acres

A big thanks to all those Philly alumni who braved the downpour and joined fellow alumni and Asst. Dir. Gina Dowell for a night of brotherly love in the city of Philadelphia! A shout out to all those who attended the chapter meeting to review applications for the Philly student scholarship, as well as plan the chapter’s exciting new plans for the fall. This crew can’t wait to see JMU take on Villanova and flood the city with purple passion!

Another very special thank you to our newest Philly volunteer, Richie Gebauer(‘07M) who took time to meet with Gina on what was a perfect summer night in the city! Look out Philly alumni- Richie is looking to start a new happy hour schedule to help more alumni connect in the city and feel the JMU pride love!
JMU Harrisonburg Alumni Professional Network Breakfast
Despite the 7am start time, more than 60 alumni came to campus to hear Dr. Rose provide a campus update. So much great information, including the demographics of campus and current and future projects. Thank you, Dr. Rose, for taking the time out of your busy schedule (during Orientation, no less!), to join us!
Things certainly got interesting with the always-popular networking activity. This time, our guests played "three truths and a lie," and we certainly learned some interesting tidbits about our local graduates!!
If you're interested in sponsoring future breakfasts or have suggestions for speakers, contact Kemper Funkhouser at HburgAPNChpt@alumni.jmu.edu.
Upcoming Events:
9/18: APN Breakfast, 7am Festival Ballroom A
12/11: APN Breakfast, 7am Festival Ballroom A
Freshman Send-Off Picnic
We were lucky enough to join the Parent Relations team, and other JMU representatives to welcome about 150 incoming freshmen and their families to the JMU community! Special kudos to Baltimore/Annapolis Alumni Chapter President Rebekah Porter, who represented her chapter at the event!
