Chapter Challenge

Purpose of the Chapter Challenge

To engage JMU Alumni Association regional chapters in order to leverage their financial support of JMU — part of the overall goal to increase alumni giving participation.

You can help your chapter secure a special event grant from JMU Alumni Association in the amount of $100, $250 or $500 depending on the success of your chapter.

Why is it important to give back to JMU?
There are many reasons to give back to JMU. From keeping students in school to supporting university programs, your gift can make a difference. For the full story, click here.

How is the percentage for each chapter calculated?
The Chapter Challenge percentage is calculated based on a 30 mile radius of the chapter. For example, all gifts made by an alumni living within a 30 mile radius of Charlottesville are counted towards the Charlottesville Chapter’s percentage.

If I live outside of a 30 mile radius of a chapter, why should I make a gift?
If you live outside of a 30 mile radius of a chapter, your gift still makes a difference! Financial gifts enhance the university. They provide funding for scholarships, academic departments, student programs, facilitiy enhancements, the recruitment and retention of exceptional faculty, and needed support for many big dreams in Madison's future.

Must I give to a specific area for it to be counted as part of the Chapter Challenge?
No. Gifts to ALL areas of the university are counted toward the Chapter Challenge. For more information, click here.

Is there a minimum donation required for the Chapter Challenge?
No. The focus of the Chapter Challenge is increasing alumni participation so there is not a minimum donation. All gifts (even $10) are counted toward the Chapter Challenge.

What’s in it for your chapter?

Chapters exceeding the national alumni participation percentage:

1. Receive a Special Event Grant of $100 to sponsor a chapter alumni engagement event.
2. Recognition at the Madison Alumni Conference Awards Ceremony.

Chapter with largest percentage increase in giving (from FY13 to FY14)

1. Receive a Special Event Grant of $250 to sponsor a chapter alumni engagement event.
2. Recognition at the Madison Alumni Conference Awards Ceremony. 

Chapter with the overall highest participation rate  (The Grand Prize)

1. Receive a Special Event Grant of $500 to sponsor a chapter alumni engagement event.
2. Recognition at the Madison Alumni Conference Awards Ceremony. 
3. The Alumni Association will help plan and send a university representative to an event in that region.
