Homecoming

The granddaddy of them all. JMU Homecoming is an annual celebration when we welcome all of our Madison graduates back to campus. Popular traditions include pep rally, the alumni tailgate, the alumni golf tournament, student-run events like Purple Out! and Commons Day, the crowning of Mr. and Ms. Madison and recognizing our distinguished alumni award winners at halftime of the football game. For complete homecoming information, visit the homecoming website and become a fan of JMU Homecoming on Facebook

Bluestone Reunions

A late-spring tradition, Bluestone Reunions is an annual event celebrating JMU alumni who have reached the 50th anniversary of their graduation. All graduates in five year intervals are invited back for class reunions that include tours of campus, class lunches and dinners, special appearances from the JMU president and the JMU Alumni Association president, and an indiction ceremony for the 50th reunion class into the Bluestone Society. Learn more about Bluestone Reunions.

MetroDukes Crabfest

Our largest annual chapter event. MetroDukes Crabfest routinely draws between 500 and 1,000 people annually, with proceeds going to support the MetroDukes Chapter scholarship fund. Attendees feast on delicious crabs, corn-on-the-cob and shrimp, enjoy live music and participate in a raffle drawing for the chance to win giveaway prizes courtesy of the alumni association. View photos of the event from our Facebook album MetroDukes Crabfest 2012 and read the full recap of MetroDukes Crabfest. Information on the next MetroDukes Crabfest will be available in the summer of 2013.

Richmond Crabfest

Just like the one in D.C. except 90 miles down the road. Richmond Crabfest is the area's largest scholarship fundraiser and usually draws 400-500 people, with proceeds supporting the RVA Dukes Chapter scholarship fund. Learn more

The Big Event

JMU alumni make a big difference. And every year in mid-April, they band together for a day of community service in partnership with JMU community relations, Greater Madison and the Student Government Association. In 2012, more than 1,000 JMU students and alumni participated in service events in 13 different cities across the country. Learn more about The Big Event.

Legacy Picnic

Legacy and history are a big part of the Madison Experience, which is why we celebrate our incoming legacy Dukes (freshmen with a parent or grandparent who graduated from Madison) every fall at our legacy lunch. Incoming freshmen and their parents enjoy a picnic on us, get to meet the presidents of both JMU and the JMU Alumni Association, and hear about some of Madison's great traditions from fellow Dukes of all generations.

Madison Alumni Conference

Being a JMU alum, just like being a JMU student, is about involvement. That's why every summer we host our alumni chapter leaders on campus for a two-day leadership conference designed to enhance the alumni experience, celebrate achievement and improve alumni programs across the country. Learn more about MAC

Alumni Candle Lighting Ceremony

It's one of JMU's oldest traditions, with origins dating back to 1912. Every year, just prior to commencement, graduating seniors gather together for a candle lighting ceremony to celebrate their induction into the JMU alumni family. The primary candle also is used to induct the 50th reunion class into the Bluestone Society, connecting Madison's past and present. Information about the next Alumni Candle Lighting Ceremony will be available in the spring of 2013.

D.I.P.P.

Career networking is a big part of life after graduation. Every winter, the alumni office facilitates Dukes Interacting: Past & Present, a networking event between students and alumni — including members of the JMU Alumni Association Board of Directors — to discuss job markets, best practices in career planning, industry trends and networking. Information about the next Dukes Interacting: Past & Present event will be available in the winter of 2012.

Madison College Luncheon Series

Think of it as a warmup for Bluestone Reunions — or just another way to bring alumni together. The Madison College Luncheon Series, hosted annually, is a road show throughout Virginia, usually in the fall or winter, for graduates of Madison College. Past venues have included Smithfield Station and historic Mount Vernon.
