Same JMU THIRD THURSDAY Tradition -- NEW
LOCATIONS!
Given that our tradition of having JMU alumni happy
hours EVERY third Thursday is nearly 5 years old, we figured it's
time to switch things up a little. While much is still the same
--start time is 6:00, JMU ladies are lookers, and single guys are
in high demand -- both the Virginia Beach and Norfolk locations are
new! JMU people can always be counted on to be fun and friendly so
why not come out and join us
May 15, Black Finn in Norfolk's
Waterside, ($3 you-call-its - that's anything behind the bar AND
complimentary appetizers!). Congrats class of 2008! Join us in welcoming new grads to the area.
June 19, Gordon Biersch , Town

It's not too late to do an act of service
in honor of JMU's 100th birthday! Be a "centennial
supporter" of the Tidewater alumni chapter scholarship with a

5th Annual Tidewater Beach Party
Come enjoy some summer fun with fellow JMU alumni,
family and friends!
Date: June 14, 2008
Time: 1:00PM - 4:00PM ET

Adults $20 in advance (The price increases
to $25 after May 9th and to $30 at the door.) Children (ages 12 -6)
$6 (Children age 5 and under FREE)
Featuring a cookout on the deck (hamburgers/hot
dogs/chicken & sides) and adult beverages (3 tickets good for
beer, wine or well drinks), kids games, DJ entertainment, &
lots of opportunity to hang out with DUUUUKES, who as you know, are
always a good time! This is a ready-made opportunity for a reunion
amongst old friends, teammates, roommates, sorors & frat
brothers-- champion the idea of having them all gather this weekend
at the beach!
This year's event will include a SILENT AUCTION so be
sure to bring your checkbooks. (We won't have the ability to
process credit cards on site.) Event held rain or shine. No
refunds!
Being JMU's centennial year, we are increasing our
efforts and raising our fundraising goals. The beach party is the
sole annual fundraiser for the Tidewater Alumni Chapter Scholarship
Fund, which we're hoping to endow when it reaches $25,000 and
provide scholarships to financially assist students attending JMU
from the Tidewater area.

2nd Annual Cinco De Mayo edition of the
Hampton Roads College Alumni Network Mixer - May 8th
It's that time of year again! The 2nd Annual Cinco De Mayo
edition of the Hampton Roads College Alumni Network Mixer will be
happening on Thurs., May 8th from 6 to 10 PM @ Guadalajara in the
VA Beach Town Center(4611 Columbus St)! Attendance is free as
usual! There will be drink specials and free appetizers!! The last
7 mixers have all been great successes having an average attendance
of over 100 people!! Especially, the most recent 2nd Annual Mardi
Gras Mixer @ Blackfinn's in Norfolk's Waterside, 2nd Annual
Holidays Mixer @ Guadalajara(Town Center-VB) and Oktoberfest mixer
@ Gordon Biersch...all averaging 150 alumni or more!! Alumni from
various schools such as CNU, Clemson, ECU, GMU, Georgia Tech,
Hollins, JMU, Longwood, Mary Baldwin, Marymount, Mary Washington,
NC State, Ohio State, ODU, Radford, R-MC, Shenandoah, Sweetbriar,
UNC, U of R, U of TX, UVA, VCU, VT, VA Wesleyan, W&M, etc. have
been in attendance!! As always, its a great opportunity for your
alumni to network with or make new friends with people who are also

Get Involved - Nominate Yourself for a
Tidewater Alumni Chapter Leadership Position!
The Tidewater Chapter is in need of volunteers just like you
to help organize and lead other chapter activities. If you are
looking to get more involved with JMU activities in the Tidewater
area, this is your chance!
Nominations for next year's (starting in July 2008) term
are being sought! Chapter positions are a great way to develop
leadership experience and stay connected to your alma mater. Please
consider nominating yourself for one of the following chapter
positions:
- Chapter President
- Chapter President-Elect,
- Outreach and Volunteer Management
- Web/Communications
The Chapter President is responsible for:
+ representing JMU in the chapter area
+ setting the agenda and presiding over monthly chapter
meetings
+ facilitating necessary
planning for events, meetings, and chapter functions
+ working with
enthusiastic committee members
+ attending the annual JMU Alumni Leadership Conference and
+ being the liaison (including completing and submitting an annual
report) to the Office of Alumni Relations.
