Tidewater Top Ten
TIDEWATER TOP TEN
Fall 2006/ Winter 2007
edition
Apologies to all the faithful Tidewater Top Ten
fans who have patiently awaited an update. Yeah, I know, we've been
slackers in letting the last list lapse for a full year ---but hey,
they were all deserving Dukes! Without further adieu, here it is,
the long awaited "next edition". If you know of someone deserving
of our mention in our next list, write to TidewaterChpt@yahoo.comand tell us
why!
- Kelly Woodruff ('94) was the
brainchild behind this year's wildly successful Alumni
Professional/Career Night at Kincaid's in MacArthur
Mall October 3rd. If you weren't there, you missed a
packed house of enthusiastic job seekers and potential employers.
We're already hopeful Kelly is willing to take this event on again
next year!
9. Clark Simpson ('95), a senior associate with CBRE,
wins the award for being the first purple &gold sponsor for the 4th annual JMU alumni beach party.
Despite it being months away, Clark avoided months of harassment by Alison Cooper (see below) by
ponying up early.
- Congratulations to Rich Williams ('91) on his
recent nuptials to the former Jennifer Cummings. Rich is one of the
"founding fathers" of our 3rd Thursday happy hour and
still coordinates the monthly function and game watching parties on
the chapter's behalf.
- Glad you found us to Alex Yeats ('00), Steve Genti
('00), and David Burns('06). All three
alums sought out the alumni chapter as a social and/or professional
outlet after only recently relocating to the area. As they looked
like they were having a good time at our last 3rd
Thursday happy hour, we expect them back on a regular basis (hint,
hint single ladies!!!)!
- In his first year as an alumnus, Jason Moore
('05) impressed us with his enthusiasm for all things JMU
and his willingness to jump right in, even emceeing last year's
alumni beach party. He's lived up to his pledge to become a
"regular", not only with the alumni events, but also with the Duke
Club.
- Hands down, the "ironman" award easily goes to Theresa
Coker ('98). Despite having a 12 hour grave-yard shift
ahead of her, she made it to 3rd Thursday happy hour and
even talked along fellow Duke (AJ!). We're looking
forward to putting her effervescent personality to work for our
chapter as she has offered to be part of our leadership team.
4. Suzanne (Wilson) Jones ('93) is about as
faithful of a Dukes football fan as they come. On a fall Saturday afternoon, it's a pretty sure thing to find her
tuned into the football broadcast on 1310. Since the 1989 season when she was a freshman, there aren't
many games that she's
missed.
- Despite having a lot going on in trying to get construction
started on Granby Tower, developer Buddy Gadams
('93) is a great supporter in frequently being on hand at
our 3rd Thursday happy hour. We'd be remiss in not
recognizing the real enablor - Jenny (Kelsey) Gadams
('93)!
- You can run but you can't hide from our ace scholarship
fundraiser Alison Cooper ('93). Last year she
raised more than $2,500 through beach party sponsorships and be
forewarned, she's raising her goal this year! AND she just agreed
to becoming our alumni chapter LEADER! Ladies and gentlemen, fasten
your seat belts, it's going to be a wild ride!
1. A big thank you to Michelle ('92) and
Mark ('92) McKinney --- as many times as we've
asked, and we've asked a lot lately, they've always said YES! Mark's law
firm, Dodl & McKinney, was a 2006 beach party sponsor and Michelle got her employer (Alltel) to donate a raffle prize (a Ryan Martin Racing Pack). Most recently, they both donated give-aways for our Career Night goody bags.
