EVENTS - Come join fellow Dukes for the following fantastic activities!

November 2008
November 10
Madison Mondays - Washington, DC

Join your fellow JMU alumni as Madison Mondays ventures out of Arlington, VA and into the "mean streets" of Washington, DC. The next event will be held November 10th at McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon near the Foggy Bottom Metro. We will have the run of the back dining room in the basement from 5-9 with specials a-plenty: McFadden's 1/2 price Happy Hour (everything behind the bar) from 4-7.

There will also be flip cup tables set up for our alumni and their friends as we celebrate our friends and JMU's fantastic run of sports success this fall. So come on out to McFadden's on Monday, November 10th, bring some friends and hang out for the night. Its not a coincidence that we've planned this the day before Veteran's Day, which many government workers will have as a holiday! J.... M.... U....DUUUUUUUUUKES!!!!

November 18
MetroDukes Book Club Meeting - Ballston, VA

For November, join the book club in a discussion of Deja Dead (still time for some Halloween inspiried flavor) by Kathy Reichs. This is the first in a series of novels featuring the character Temperance "Tempe" Brennan, a forensic pathologist. Yes, this is also the name of the main character in the television series Bones, which was inspired by the works of Kathy Reichs. Below is a summary of the book:

In the year since Tempe left behind a shaky marriage in North Carolina, work has often preempted her weekend plans to explore Quebec. But when an unidentified female corpse is discovered meticulously dismembered and stashed in garbage bags, Tempe detects an alarming pattern within the grisly handiwork -- and her professional detachment gives way to a harrowing search for a killer in the city's winding streets. With little help from the police, Tempe calls on her expertise, honed in the isolated intensity of the autopsy suite, to investigate on her own. But her determined chase is about to place those closest to her -- her best friend and her daughter -- in mortal danger....

Please RSVP to Jon Fiencke ('98) at MetroDukesBookClub@yahoo.com.

November 22
Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Walkathon - Washington, DC

Join us on November 22nd for the Fannie Mae Foundation Help the Homeless Walkathon. All JMUers will be registered as guests of Fannie Mae employee Megan Cech ('04), thereby waiving the $15 registration fee. Also Fannie Mae will donate $50 to the Foundation in the name of each person we bring to the Walkathon, so the more Dukes and friends that join us, the better! Plus you get a cool long sleeve t-shirt!

For more than 20 years, the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Program has brought together caring and committed individuals to work toward preventing and ending homelessness in our region. This year, it is estimated that there are nearly 12,000 people in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area who are homeless. Together, we can help solve this issue. All it takes is a few hours of your time. Please join tens of thousands of your neighbors for the 21st Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon. http://www.helpthehomelessdc.org/site/PageServer
If you are interested in participating or if you have questions please contact Caroline Chin ('05) at caroline.s.chin@gmail.com by Nov. 19th.

The event will start at 8:30am at the National Mall at 7th Street. The walk is a 5k loop around the Tidal Basin.
