Vanessa Evans, Class of 1993 and 1997

As Associate Director of the Ron Brown Scholar Program –CAP Charitable Foundation (USA), Vanessa Evans has a passion for working with young people who are not only committed to advancing themselves but their communities as well. Since 2001 Ms. Evans has served on the staff of this distinguished program named in honor of the late Ronald H. Brown, former Secretary of Commerce. The Program awards college scholarships to African American high school seniors of outstanding promise. Many of these seniors come from single-parent homes and have overcome significant personal and financial obstacles. All demonstrate high academic achievement, strong leadership potential and an unerring sense of social responsibility.

Before joining the Ron Brown Scholar Program, Ms. Evans was the Senior Assistant Dean of Admissions at the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA. Prior to that, she served as Assistant Director of Admissions at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA. In both capacities her area of responsibility was multicultural recruitment. At James Madison University she also served as Coordinator of Events & Conferences.

Ms. Evans earned two degrees from James Madison University; a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Master of Education degree in College Student Personnel Administration. Ms. Evans is a member of the National Scholarship Providers Association and serves as President of the James Madison University Black Alumni Association.
