Put up you Dukes

For the JMU Centennial celebration, uniquely painted versions of the Duke Dog Statue will be on display throughout JMU and Harrisonburg. The JMU Alumni Association has three Duke Dogs in honor of our alumni on display in the Leeolou Alumni Center. Read about the Duke Dog statues


Board Meetings

The JMU Alumni Association Board of Directors meets three times a year, including a June meeting that is open to all alumni. Stay up-to-date by reading about business conducted at recent meetings.

Provided university update via written report.

Office of Alumni Relations Update: Ashley Privott
Demonstration of the JMU Alumni Association's online presence, including the new JMUAA Web site, Harris Connect, MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Committee Reports
Finance and Audit – A-J Fischer
The audit is complete and will be reviewed by the full board at the September meeting. The complete budget was presented and reviewed. The JMUAA will be pursuing new affinity partnerships in the near future.

Strategic Planning Committee - Scott Thornhill and Ashley Privott
Presentation of the implementation portion of the strategic plan. On April 4, it will also be presented to the Board of Visitors Development Committee. The strategic planning committee is also developing a database to track progress of implementation.

Nomination Committee - Elaine Hinsdale
Announced end of terms for two board members in June, three members up for re-election, as well as two alumni for consideration of addition to the board. Nominations for new board members will be accepted until March 31.

Chapter Outreach Committee - Josh Pringle and Gina Dowell
Presented on new chapter handbook to be debuted at June board meeting. It provides rules/regulations/guidelines for alumni groups, including the definitions and leadership structures for each type of group (alumni chapters, spirit cities, affinity chapters and dukes around the world). Also discussed plans for Alumni Volunteer Weekend, and engagement of the Class of 2008 and older alumni.

Recognition Committee - Sean Harrington
Presented plans to expand on awards process, specifically via better communications and marketing. Total scholarships for 2008-2009: 9 renewable scholarships, 37 legacy scholarships.

Marketing Committee - Paul Thompson and Jessica Lumsden
Presented strategic plan for communications assessment, JMUAA branding, Leeolou Alumni Center awareness and loyalty marketing campaigns.

Programming Committee - Paul Campbell
Presented plans for reunions, Homecoming, Senior Week (including candlelighting with Class of 1958 and Senior Send-Off) and mentoring.

Volunteer Spotlight Kelly Warren ('00)

In April, Kelly Warren (’00) led the Richmond Alumni Chapter team in the Monument 10K, raising more than $7,500 for the Massey Cancer center.
