Altogether, A Job Well Done

Do you remember anything unusual about your Nov. 16, 2003, pay advice? Most employees didn't notice anything out of the ordinary for the sheer fact that the semimonthly pay advices appeared in mailboxes on time as usual. That day has special significance, however, for those JMU staff members whose job it is to make sure each university employee gets paid on time.

On Nov. 16, 2003, fire ravaged the offices of Medical Arts East, which houses approximately 50 JMU employees, including the payroll accounting staff, procurement services and six other offices. When these employees reported for work on Monday, Nov. 17, fire trucks were still on the scene outside their office complex. Undaunted by the loss of personal items, some of these employees donned hard hats and pitched in to help recover as much JMU equipment and files as possible. That same afternoon, in spite of the fact that they had to setup temporary offices, many of the 50 were already back at work.

Their personal examples of all together one go far and above a job well done. Here are the accounts of 17 of these 50 extraordinary JMU employees, followed by a few "thank yous" to the JMU employees who assisted them after the fire. Click on the names below to read their stories.
