All new freshmen are advised by a freshman advisor their first semester at JMU. Advisor assignments are based upon the major you declare via the orientation One Book website. Undeclared students are advised by an advisor in Career and Academic Planning who can assist you with making informed decisions about a major and career.
Freshmen advising is coordinator by the office of Career and Academic Planning located in Wilson Hall room 301.
New Transfer Students
New transfer students who have completed at least 30 or more transfer credit hours must declare a major upon matriculation and are advised by a faculty member in their major department.
New transfer students who have earned less than 30 JMU approved transfer credits are advised by an advisor in Career and Academic Planning if they are undeclared, or by a faculty member in their major department if they have declared a major upon matriculating to JMU.
Currently Enrolled Students
All currently enrolled JMU students who have declared a major, including second semester freshmen, are advised by a faculty member from their major department.
