Enrolling in the Adult Degree Program
Traditional admissions criteria are not
used for Adult Degree Program students. However, all Individualized Studies
majors must be accepted to the university and may apply as a special student
(returning JMU students submit a JMU application to BIS office) which
requires as a minimum a high school diploma or the GED, plus thirty hours of
transferable college credit and a three year break in formal education since
high school.
Enrollment Procedure
To apply to the Adult Degree Program, follow these steps:
1. contact BIS office by phone, 540-568-6824, or by e-mail,
adult-degree-program@jmu.edu
2. have official transcripts directly to:

3. On the Internet at:

complete special student enrollment application form
unless you have previously been a degree seeking student at JMU, in which
case you complete a JMU application (available in BIS office) and submit it to
the Adult Degree Program.
4. register for BIS 200 Orientation Courses--
BIS 200A, Career and Life Planning [recommended, not required]
BIS 200B--Orientation
[required]
BIS 200C--Portfolio Development [required for students who expect to
submit portfolio of experiential learning]
BIS 200D--Information Technologies [an optional course to enable students to
meet university computer literacy requirement]
BIS 200F-- Student Services Learning [optional course to learn about learning
support services at JMU]
NOTE: BIS
200B and BIS 200C are
now available via the Internet.
